Kolomuty

The village was built on the site of an original prehistoric settlement. It boasts findings of burial sites of the Urnfield people — of the Lusatian and Silesian clothmaking culture. Kolomuty is about 6 kilometres east of Mladá Boleslav.

The prehistoric period cannot be described as the history of the village in the true sense of the word. Real villages were only formed in the  Early or Late Middle Ages, from the 12th to the 14th centuries. At that time, the village name, which refers to the geographical conditions, was gradually created. Kolomuty village used to be a marshy place — a swamp around something, probably around a courtyard, settlement or fortress. In the Old Czech language, the word "mut, muty" meant "swamp, mud". The meaning of the word "kolo" is clear. However, the name of the village does not yet occur in the first written mention of the village in the 1292 Deed of Donation.
