Get to know the Rock castle Valečov

Rock castle Valečov forms one of the dominant features of the Bohemian Paradise and it is considered one of the most beautiful rock castles in our country. It is located near Mnichovo Hradiště, above the village of Boseň. During the winter period, the castle is open at the weekends from 10 AM to 4 PM; opening during working days is possible upon telephone contact.

The visit in the castle ruins Valečov offers an extraordinary experience. As you approach it, you will have the impression it grows from the rocks. Its appearance was strongly affected by the sandstone rocks where it was partially carved and partially constructed.

The first note in writing on the owners is from 1316 – 1318. The brick foundations on four rock blocks originate in 1450 and they were surrounded with bulwark, farmyard, and two settlements.

The entrance exposition of the castle introduces the archaeological findings from the collections of museum in Mladá Boleslav.

It is worth visiting the rock rooms in the castle vicinity which were originally inhabited during Young Slavonic period in 8th and 10th century. From 1866, it was temporarily inhabited by poor people.
